National Dance Teachers Association’s response – Launch of the New National Curriculum Proposals
As you may be aware, on 7th February the Secretary of State for Education announced a public consultation on the draft National Curriculum which will run until 16th April 2013.
The NDTA have been consulted in the later stages of the new National Curriculum Framework and we now welcome the opportunity for our members to engage in the consultation to ensure there is a high quality dance experience for all children and young people.
The NDTA’s initial response is:
• The National Dance Teachers Association are pleased that the proposed national curriculum for physical education along with English, Maths and Science is statutory at all key stages.
• We welcome the inclusion of dance in the purpose of study for physical education as part of a balanced programme of physical activities at Key Stages 1/2/3 and as an option at Key Stage 4.
• We will work with all members of our association in partnership with the Dance Programme Board to ensure they are fully involved in the consultation process.
It is important that you make individual responses both to the current consultation process and to your local MP. We will be contacting you in the near future to support you in this response.
