DTAP update for NDTA members
Wednesday 15th December
DTAP is the Dance Training Accreditation Partnership of leading national dance organisations working to increase professional recognition for those who work as dance teachers and leaders outside formal state education. DTAP aims to make its work inclusive of, and applicable to, teachers, leaders and artists working in all styles of dance and in all settings focussed on dance-dedicated participatory practice (as opposed to activities that include aspects of dance but that are primarily exercise or fitness focused). By establishing nationally recognised standards, DTAP aims to help those who provide employment know how to recognise and expect good practice, and to increase the range and amount of work available to dance leaders and teachers who demonstrate good practice.
DTAP’s recent achievements have included:
• the development of National Occupational Standards in Dance Leadership which set the nationally recognised standards dance teachers & leaders working in any style or context should aspire to achieving
• the creation of a new national qualification, the Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning which focuses on working with children and young people and is applicable to teachers / leaders working in any dance style. The diploma, which is accredited by Ofqual, is available through Trinity College London
• commissioning research to explore the most appropriate means of revealing competency in dance teaching / leading to members of the public, employers and those without specialist dance knowledge. The research team are currently working with the DTAP Consortium on finessing a suitable business model.
The following organisations form the DTAP consortium:
Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD)
Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET)
Dance UK
Foundation for Community Dance (FCD)
National Dance Teachers’ Association (NDTA)
Standing Conference on Dance in Higher Education (SCODHE)
South Asian Dance Alliance (SADA)
Youth Dance England (YDE)
