Henley Review of Cultural Education February 2012

Thursday 1st January

The Cultural Education Review, produced by Darren Henley, was published in February 2012. In the review, many recommendations were made that propose how cultural education (including dance) can be more accessible to children and young people in and beyond schools. Most important for us is his recommendation that: Consideration should be given to promoting Dance and Drama to subject areas in their own right, rather than being seen as junior partners to PE and English. The government’s response was as follows: The Department for Education is currently reviewing the National Curriculum, and this recommendation will feed into the consultation process for consideration. Youth Dance England has worked with the National Dance Teachers Association, to produce a document that outlines what is considered important to be included in a dance curriculum across all key stages. You can download this document here.
